The Concept
The concept of the product is to help encourage the growing of trees and plants along the Cally. The product attempts to do this through educating users as to how to care for locally growing plants, giving them an initiative to get involved and take ownership of the natural environment that exists along the Cally. The product looks to emphasise the vaule of the natural environment that exists within urban London, not just in terms of purifying the polluted air but also in terms of the biodiversity that exists and the overall wellbeing of the general population.

Around the world there is a growing acknowledgement of the imprtance of trees and the important role they play when it comes to air purification, especially within cities. However, despite this growing acknowledgement, the UK is missing its tree growing target by 71%, this poses the question of how we can transfer the responsibility of growing from the government onto local residents.
This is an illustration taken from 'Trees as infrastrcture' and it illustrates the positive effects that planting trees within a community has on the community itself. The idea is that ownership of the trees is taken by the residents. Along with the planting of trees, there is an emphasis on improving the city landscape for pedestrians and cyclist to encourage an alternative method of commuting acorss the city - a method that along with the planting of trees aims to reduce the local air pollution. This is part of illustrating the long term effect I wish for my careware to have on the local community, through raising the awareness of the need for such a space.
